About the Scholarship
The Honjo International Scholarship 2026 is offered by the Honjo International Scholarship Foundation, Japan. This scholarship is designed to support outstanding international students enrolled in Japanese graduate schools by providing financial assistance to focus on their academic and research pursuits..
Selected students will receive a living allowance of up to JPY 180,000 (approx. ₹1,07,840) per month for the scholarship duration of 1 year, enabling them to concentrate fully on their research and studies.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be international students.
- Enrolled in a Japanese graduate school by April 2026 or applying for a course starting in April 2025; those entering in April or Fall 2026 are also eligible.
- Enrolment duration until graduation must be longer than 12 months.
- Must have a deep understanding of international friendship and goodwill.
- Must be able to carry out basic conversation in Japanese.
Additional Notes: Research students, auditing students, and those in correspondence/distance courses are not eligible. PhD applicants must begin the course before age 35; Master’s applicants must start before age 30.

The scholarship provides selected students with JPY 180,000 (approx. ₹1,07,840) per month as a living allowance for one year. This financial support allows students to focus on their research and academic activities without financial strain.

Terms and Conditions

- Any changes in enrollment status must be reported immediately.
- Recipients may not receive other scholarships simultaneously, except for:
- Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship
- Monbukagakusho Honours Scholarship for Privately Financed International Students
- JSPS International Fellowship
